Zero Software Issues: Healthcare Software as a Service (SaaS)

MediClick provides state-of-the-art materials management and financial software to healthcare organizations. Incorporating the latest web-based technologies, the ProClick software is consistently regarded as the best in its class.

Web-based technology offers customers a major advantage. With minimal start-up costs and operational duties, customers save substantial time and money. Literally, at the click of a mouse, MediClick provides its clients with the most advanced application and database of its kind -- as well as the hardware and the software to support it.

"We don't want our customers to have to install anything," says Tony Verdone, Vice President of Development and Operations. "That's our tenet. All they need is internet access."

The concept is known as "software as a service" (SaaS). MediClick has a distinguished reputation in this area. It began in 1973, when a talented team of software designers, engineers and operations professionals formed Global Software, Inc., which now has over 40,000 users worldwide. Due to its rapid growth, the healthcare division of Global Software became a separate entity, known as MediClick, in the year 2000.

No More Printing to Send a Fax

Many of MediClick's customers are hospitals and clinics that purchase volumes of materials from vendors every month. The larger vendors have systems in place that allow for electronic data interchange (EDI), but many smaller vendors don't offer it.

Before InterFAX, these MediClick customers would have to print out purchase orders, then send them to the vendors with a fax machine. It was a cumbersome, time-consuming process. "When a purchase order was authorized, they wanted the capability of automatically faxing it to the vendor," Verdone says. "We decided we needed to provide that capability."

Before choosing InterFAX, they compared several faxing services. "We liked the web-based approach of InterFAX, because we're web-based too.  It's a very clean, efficient model -- our servers talking to your servers. We don't need dedicated lines. Everything is HTTPS encrypted. It's secure and reliable."

Implementation: The Best You Can Hope For

After a brief introduction, the MediClick program developer quickly understood how to implement InterFAX. It was up-and-running in a day.

"As a tool, it's very easy to use," Verdone says. "We've had zero software issues. Since we implemented it, we haven't touched it. That's the best your can hope for."

As soon as faxing capability was introduced in February, one large hospital jumped on it. Within three months, they'd send 14,000 pages by fax. They couldn't be happier.

MediClick customers send thousands of faxes through InterFAX. Smaller hospitals may send only 50 pages a month, but larger ones send as many as 5,000 pages a month. Since MediClick continues to add 2-3 new hospitals every month, the volume is expected to steadily expand.

When asked if he'd recommend InterFAX to others, Tony Verdone said, "Absolutely. It's in my best interest for InterFAX to do well. I hope they stay in business a long time. InterFAX solves a problem I don't want to deal with any more!"

"When we rolled it out in February, 2006, our faxing numbers immediately went up. We're signing more and more customers because they hear about the faxing capability."

Vice President of Development and Operations
